A good research brief lets you answer one awkward question quickly: “Where did that sentence come from?”
Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July and described a rollout of cloud-computer capabilities for deeper analysis. It remains a standalone research product, with connections across Google's ecosystem. Product names and access levels may differ as those changes reach accounts. Google's rename announcement
For a creator, the useful habit is to preserve the path from source to claim to finished story. The following workflow uses a hypothetical camera comparison to make that concrete.
Build a source set around a decision
Suppose your audience is choosing a compact camera for recording in a small room. Start with official specifications, manuals, your own sample footage notes, and a list of the questions viewers actually ask.
Keep marketing announcements separate from manuals and your own observations. The announcement may describe the intended experience. The manual may reveal a limitation. Your footage shows what happened under the conditions you tested.
Name files clearly and include dates. “Camera manual, model X, downloaded September 5” is more useful later than “camera-final-new.pdf.”
Remove duplicates when practical. Several copies of the same announcement should not appear to be several independent confirmations of a claim.
Ask for an evidence map before an outline
Request a short record for each important question: the source, what it says, the conditions that apply, and any unresolved conflict.
For example, “Can this camera record the entire interview?” needs more than a headline about video quality. The answer may depend on settings, power, storage, or conditions you have not tested. The research brief should surface those dependencies.
Ask the tool to distinguish an absent answer from a negative answer. “The supplied sources do not state a recording limit” is different from “there is no recording limit.”
Google's research update describes new reasoning and output capabilities, including more complex analysis and downloadable formats. Those capabilities are reasons to explore the workflow; they do not remove the need to inspect the underlying evidence. Google's research update
Use contradictions to improve the story
A discrepancy can become the most useful part of the video. Perhaps the specification looks ideal, but your room makes the minimum framing distance awkward.
